In October 2021, the newly formed Spirit of Mandela coalition coordinated an independent, International Tribunal on US Human Rights Abuses Against Black, Brown, and Indigenous Peoples. Led by a cross-section of experienced organizers from the Black Panther, Puerto Rican independentist, anti-imperialist/peace, and other movements, the Tribunal Jurists found the US Guilty of five counts of gross human rights abuses, amounting in total to ongoing genocidal policies against those peoples never truly included in the “We, the People” rhetoric of US exceptionalism. Preparing for the 250th anniversary of the US’ Declaration of Independence in a contemporary context of authoritarianism and re-booted conquest, Spirit of Mandela – in conjunction with Cooperation Jackson, Community Movement Builders, and other sponsoring groups, is convening a Fourth of July national mobilization of resistance in Atlanta, Georgia, with a celebratory festival of 250+plus years of resistance to land theft, colonialism, enslavement, white supremacy, environmental degradation, and genocide. This workshop will detail the work of the Spirit of Mandela coalition and engage in strategic dialogue with all workshop participants regarding how best to build a broad, united front of resistance in the coming years.
